Open Letter to the Bigelow Institute.org

So I just found out about this essay competition at the Bigelow Institute, for a big pile of money, if you can provide indisputable proof of the existence of the immortal soul. Of course I missed any deadlines and guidelines and whatever but it preyed on me. Why doesn’t anybody tell me about these things? Don’t they know i’m desperate?

Well of course they do, and of course they don’t, I’ll tell you why. Because My Soul is my business. I mean that quite literally. I invent my soul on every act in every moment. Because the present is the only bit of eternity that we are present to. and if immortality is anywhere it’s here.

My soul is mine to create, to shatter to tend, or ignore, to sell to corrupt, to repair. Einstein invented the “theory of relativity” or did he just discover it? and is that distinction pertinent to this proof? Nagasaki might have something to say on this. The founding fathers invented the United States of America, Is the USA a fiction? or is it just becoming one? A soul is as a soul does.

The immortal soul is my living creation that extends beyond my puny experience. It is my dearest love, I am as unlikely to put it into the care of a book in the hands of a Jesuit Priest or a Lama or Mullah or Pope or any other vestment queen. As I would have them care for my child. Though i’m sure it happens everyday.

In any case, That is my indisputable argument. The soul is real because you create it consciously, with intent. Like you would create a poem, or a painting, or pancakes on Sunday morning. Love in action. It is not an inheritance. It is done in the present, like the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that your kid needs for school. You do it NOW.
